Phalanx RFID Tagging

Why is RFID tagging such an important element of the PHALANX process?
Attaching barcodes is perfectly acceptable in clean environments that are never exposed to adverse weather or rough handling conditions, but that is seldom the case when dealing with equipment movements in the harsh environment of offshore oil and gas operations.
Whereas barcodes can be obscured or damaged by mud, oil or even heavy rain, the ruggedness of RFID tags makes them far more resilient and can be read from greater distances without the need for direct line of sight to the RFID reader.
Furthermore, they offer greater versatility with a range of different tag types – active or passive, for example – that can be deployed in appropriate combinations to meet the challenges of virtually any operational environment.
Phalanx Mobile takes advantage of RFID’s ability to write and read data to and from tags. The benefit of this feature is that users can continue to process equipment when there is no network connection. For example, Test Certificates can be stored on the tag and therefore retained with the equipment wherever it travels.
