Spartan Solutions came to life from Jim Green and John Glen’s shared vision and passion to build a world-class software solutions company.

Both founders were well experienced in delivering solutions to multinational companies across geographic and cultural boundaries.

With their complementary skills and clear belief in the fundamentals of how their vision could become reality, they resolved to create the company they always wanted to work for. The initial objective was not developing software, but developing a compelling business proposition that attracted world-class customers by adding real value to their businesses.

The inspiration, from a chance remark, was for a system to make physical objects ‘intelligent’ and eliminate the human error, wasted time and costs normally associated with managing them. The inspiration was followed by the perspiration, to turn the idea into reality by giving each item of equipment its own mission profile so the item ‘knew’ where it was and what it was supposed to do. It would be even more useful if the profile was flexible so that it could be changed as the situation required.

The result is Spartan Solutions and its flagship product Phalanx, a system that connects the physical world of objects to the virtual world of computers effectively eliminating the error, wasted time and costs of paper based, manual systems for companies whose businesses rely on managing physical objects. It uses a combination of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, barcodes and wireless mobile handheld computers to drive costs out of businesses by removing inefficiencies caused by errors in data and inflexible processes.

RFID is not a solution in itself but a very important revolutionary enabling technology, that when properly implemented, transforms the way we manage equipment.
